DSL.Net Buys Network Access Solutions - Brief Article
DSL.Net, a broadband competitive local exchange carrier (CLEC), reports that it has agreed to acquire network assets and subscriber lines belonging to Network Access Solutions (NAS). Herndon, Va.-based NAS has been in Chapter 11 bankruptcy since June, and so the $17 million deal needs the approval of the bankruptcy court. NAS provides service to roughly 13,000 on-network business subscriber lines in the Washington, D.C.-Boston corridor. New Haven, Conn.-based DSL.Net is one of very few CLECs growing in the current market, but has done so primarily by acquiring distressed competitors like NAS. Last summer, the company laid off staff, stopped its own buildout, and ceased serving some unprofitable central offices. However since then it has acquired DSL assets from several companies either exiting the DSL market or ceasing operations entirely, including Broadslate Networks and Aplus.net.
