Rostelecom modernizes its optical-fiber network in the south of the Russian Federation based on Alcatel solutions
Alcatel and Russian national long-distance operator Rostelecom announced that they have signed a contract for the modernization of Rostelecom's optical-fiber network in the south of the Russian Federation.
The project is scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter 2005. Implementation of this project will enable Rostelecom to increase the capacity and efficiency of its existing network to deliver new broadband services to one of the most developed and expanding regions in the Russian Federation. The equipment provides a scalable networking platform, which will allow Rostelecom to increase the reliability and efficiency of its network to deliver new broadband services such as triple-play.
Under the terms of the contract, Alcatel will deploy, in Rostelecom's network, its 1626 Light Manager, 1678 Metro Core Connect (MCC), and Optical Multi-Service Node (OMSNs) systems.
The Alcatel 1626 Light Manager offers an efficient solution for maximizing the capacity of core optical networks, and lowering the overall transmission cost per bit. The Alcatel 1350 management suite, which already monitors Rostelecom's backbone network, will manage the upgraded network. "We have been successfully partnering with Alcatel for several years and this contract will mark a new phase in our cooperation," commented Dmitry Yerokhin, CEO at Rostelecom. "We are convinced that proposed Alcatel's networking solution will allow us to respond to the market demands in a more efficient way and to increase reliability and quality of our services.
"Alcatel's end-to-end optical networking solutions are designed to help our customers meet market challenges and expand their business," stated Romano Valussi, President of Alcatel's optical networks activities. "This award confirms our reliability as Rostelecom's partner of choice to enable the future proof evolution of its optical transport infrastructure and to help lay the foundation for continuously improved quality of service and continued customer success."
