SDN Communications increases network productivity with Cisco optical solutions - Business - Cisco Systems - Brief Article
SDN Communications and Cisco Systems announced that SDN is enhancing its optical network with solutions from the Cisco Complete Optical Multiservice Edge and Transport (COMET) portfolio. Using the Cisco ONS 15600 Multiservice Switching Platform (MSSP), SDN consolidates equipment into one optical layer, significantly improving efficiency, provisioning, troubleshooting and reliability. The Cisco ONS 15600 also enables SDN Communications to consolidate its existing OC-48 interfaces with wholesale customers and eliminate costly DS-3 cross-connects. This improvement in service density translates to scalability for future. growth opportunities.
The SDN Communications network includes 5,000 miles of fiber optic cable in South Dakota, Iowa, Minnesota and Nebraska. SONET and DWDM rings connect into the Cisco ONS 15600, consolidating equipment and reducing electrical connections. With the Cisco optical solution, SDN simplifies its network and saves space in its central office. Provisioning time is also greatly reduced because technicians can now key in a cross-connect without additional cabling or manual circuit installations. Using a nearly all-optical network, SDN maximizes the redundancy and reliability of its SONET infrastructure.
